The old oak tree
Following over 150 years providing shade and beauty to the gardens of Vomero the much loved Lucombe Oak tree had to be felled for safety reasons by a team of four professionals in 2008.
John and Angela the resident proprietors made the decision to keep a large proportion of the trunk in the garden as a reminder of this once great tree. It now serves as a home to wildlife and it is hoped that over time additional plants placed around the base will grow to soften the appearance of the stump.
Sustainability
In previous years an oak tree which had to be felled was later used to make kitchen units for the apartments and a felled ash tree was used to make bed frames.
When the Lucombe Oak was felled the smaller branches were chipped and then placed on the garden borders and some logs were placed around the garden to provide a habitat for wildlife.
